Food and Hotel Asia. The bi-annual exhibition for trade buyers in the food and hospitality trade. Asia’s largest exhibition for suppliers to showcase their latest products and services. I am thankful that my boss sends me to take a look. It is an eye-opener for me. The event was huge and it covers each and every part of what the F&B and Hospitality industry needs. From Kitchen equipments to uniforms, from beef to fresh fishes. Europe food all the way to Asia food. However, I am not going to talk about the latest products and what’s the best food around. I am going to talk about the service quality in FHA.

I believe that the exhibitors are suppliers from all the various companies that are well known for their products. Some are even known region or word wide. So I assume that these people are mainly sent by their companies to promote their products, and I think they are people with high knowledge of their products. Hence, I boldly assume that they trying to attract bosses or managers from different trades to get their supplies.

With the profiles of the exhibitors established, I shall comment on their service. Almost eighty percent of these people, does not have good service, or I should say, do not have basic service to serve the trade visitors. I shall not name the companies but some are even to the extent of being rude. I shall elaborate two incidents to explain for my harsh statement. There was this booth selling their sushi materials, and thus there was free sampling for sushi on their part. Our colleague thus went over to the booth and gets a sushi each for of us (There was 5 of us including him). There was a person in front of the booth that was giving out the sushi and he stared at my colleague when he took more than one sushi. Later on he explained to the person that he was taking for his colleague but the guy just carry on staring at him. So, where are the manners of a businessman? What kind of image does this staff creates for his company? The answer is negative. There was a beef supplier offering their sliced cooked beef for visitors. When the sliced beef were dished out, all were gone in seconds. In my mind, I thought that this company offers great quality beef. The next thing that happened was a grumpy voice from the booth. It was the cook. “Wah, so fast don’t have already ar. Eat so fast..” – This was that he said. I was in disbelief. Is he arrogant or what?

Some companies were a little smarter, they select people to serve. People who wear blazers are on their top list and people who were not, they do not care. I had mixed feelings. I expect that in such a big event, there should be people with good service standards as most of the people in this trade is basically from the hospitality industry. I am disappointed, on how they treat their guest. What is one of the big bosses from a big company is just dressed in smart casual and wanting to know more about the product, and the staff from the booth turn him away and serve an admin staff that cannot make decisions on procurement that wore a blazer on that day? Wouldn’t the company lost a potential deal? I was wondering, are they really trying to promote their products or are they here for the event just for the sake of it. I am disappointed with the service that FHA exhibitors are providing. Totally not on par with the service of at least a restaurant.

On the other hand, there are some companies that provide good service as well. The black sheep shall not be name but the good ones sure deserve some credits and applause. Yamakawa Trading Co. (Pte) Ltd, the staffs with smiles all over them. Otis Spunkmeyer, the only company that promotes products by having a person walking the area giving out cookies and showing visitors where is their booth. Nautical Growth Yogurt, the only company that explain their products to us. I believe there are more, but these three companies are the ones that give me a lasting good impression. If I am a businessman, I would want to get supplies from these people, who are approachable at the very least. These are people that I would feel good working with and making sure enquiries were answered. I feel good and I am happy for their service.

To end off, I firmly believe that a good service is what makes a customer and a provider links together. It is a bridge for suppliers to reach customers and even a ladder for a company to reach greater heights. Thus good service is what it takes, if not, at least provide a smile. I am kind of happy that I know someone that read my blog from my first post and is still reading it. I had some quotes written down and there is someone who still appreciate it. Hope the quotes can help people to have a positive mind set and get them going for the day, staying happy and all. If I have time, I may review the posts myself and have a compilation of my works. I am glad that I did not change my blog, delete my blog or do anything to it except for changing the blogskin. Glad that my consistence in this pay off and helps a person to get positive thinking.

UPDATED BLOG!

Because I have a new reader which I found out tonight, I shall blog tonight. All thanks to Wendy.m.y. HAHA.

Anyway, life have been on a roller coaster ride for me. Up and down till I land on Universal Studios Singapore. Have been working there for a month now and guess what people. I have been working on the frontline servicing a lot of different customers, but now, I am a F&B admin! Totally different job scope.

However, I do enjoy it and hope it gets more fun as I wait for government to get me in NS. Hope I can know more people also and make good friends! Cheers!
